MONITORING HIMALAYAN GLACIERS USING UAVS

HiView and The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) have executed a cryospheric monitoring project in two glacierised catchments in Nepal. 

The project aimed at building capacity of regional researchers in glacio-hydrological monitoring techniques. ICIMOD had asked HiView to assist to explore in which way Flying Sensors (drones, uav) may be used to augment the ongoing CMP project through monitoring the extent of glaciers and glacier lakes, the mass balance of debris covered tongues and surface velocities. HiView has executed this project together with researchers from ICIMOD resulting in various publications in high-level scientific journals.

With this project HiView contributed to a better understanding of glacier dynamics using its ultra-high resolution imagery from Flying Sensors and supporting the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development.
