For three agricultural fields in the Netherlands innovative drainage systems have been constructed. These so-called climate-proof drainage systems will respond to the projected increase in weather extremes as a result of climate change. These climate-proof drainage systems will mitigate severe droughts by sub-surface infiltration. The systems can also be used to retain water upstream in order to overcome excessive flooding downstream.
HiView has monitored the impact of these innovative drainage systems on the agricultural crops. During some critical periods in the year, our Flying Sensors have taken near-infra red imagery on the three agricultural fields and will evaluate whether crops response positively to the innovative drainage systems.
With this project, HiView has contributed to a better understanding of hydrological processes by using ultra-high resolution imagery at the required location and at the required timing.
